I purchased the TEIN SS system for my '01 Miata LS. My car is driven almost entirely over rough, twisty, hilly, two lane state highways.
When I received the TEIN SS system, I immediately knew that I had purchased a quality product. The machine work and quality of components are top notch. Everything that I needed, except for the tender springs, was included. Eddie sent them to me free of charge when I later requested them. The instruction sheet was easy enough to follow. Installation was to more difficult than any other shock install for a Miata.
I'm using tender springs and set the initial ride height to 12 3/4" F / 13 1/4" R. At this ride height, the height adjusting collars are in the middle of the threaded portion on the shock bodies. I have plenty of room for adjustment either up or down.
The biggest surprise was how well the shocks perform over bumps and rough surfaces. Even with fairly stiff springs, the ride is compliant even at medium to semi-hard damping settings. I attribute this to what feels like soft high and mid speed (shaft speed not vehicle speed) compression damping. Body roll, dive and squat are greatly reduced due to the stiffer springs and well matched rebound damping.
Damping adjustment is accomplished via a small knob at the top of the shock shaft. With 16 "clicks" of adjustment you can adjust damping from soft to very hard. Each "click" produces a noticable difference in damping yet it is easy to fine tune to the exact level of damping that you want. The "clicks" are spaced well enough that I have yet to feel the need for a setting between "clicks".
All in all, a well engineered system capable of giving a soft compliant ride for street use or a stiff ride that is more suitable for the race track or anything in between. Good job TEIN!
